Why We Do Want Winter-Like Weather

The folksy forecast from the groundhog in Punxsutawney Phil last weekend was for six more weeks of winter.

And it looks like he might have it right.

The big rain storm that hit Northern California, atmospheric river that is, brough that part of the state lots of rain and even some mudslides with at least one home collapsing into a river.

Here in Southern California, we are getting some rain, but not all that much, which actually is okay.  While we need some rain, we don’t need any of that torrential rain and flooding like last winter.

Meantime, back in the Midwest and Northeast, they’re getting ice and snow and possibly lots of it.

According to forecasters, winter storms are going to be hitting the eastern half of the United States, one after the other, that could continue for a couple of weeks…..with new storms arriving every few days until the jet stream shifts — something that might not happen until the second half of February.

And of course. those storms will likely affect air travel from the East Coast to out here on the West Coast.

So winter weather is happening and will be happening. It is only early February after all.

We could still use more rain more often to help ease the drought conditions so let’s hope that rodent’s prediction of six more weeks of winter means wetter weeks for us.
