FBI Fires Agent Who Sent Anti-Trump Text Messages

 Peter Strzok

The FBI has fired Peter Strzok, the counterintelligence agent who sent multiple anti-Trump text messages to FBI lawyer Lisa Page, who he was having an affair with, while he was working on the investigation into potential collusion between Donald Trump's campaign and the Russian government.

Strzok's lawyer, Aitan Goelman, slammed the decision to fire Strzok after the veteran agent's 22-years of service.

"The decision to fire Special Agent Strzok is not only a departure from typical Bureau practice but also contradicts Director Wray’s testimony to Congress and his assurances that the FBI intended to follow its regular process in this and all personnel matters," he said.

Goelman pointed out that an internal disciplinary review had suggested that Strzok receive a 60-day suspension and be demoted, but the FBI brass overruled the decision and chose to fire him for his conduct.
