San Diego Police Force In Need of Officers


The San Diego Police Department is down 207 officers, 10 percent of the force according to a report presented to the San Diego City Council's Public Safety Committee. 

The department has the money to fund the positions but is having trouble finding people who want to wear wear a badge. San Diego's Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman says one factor is the current national narrative against law enforcement. 

San Diego Police Officers Association President Brian Marvel says there are other factors contributing to the fewer number of applications and officers. 

Marvel talked to Jack Cronin and Marilyn Hyder during San Diego's Evening News.
