San Diego Spends More On Booze Than Any Other City In America

Report shows the average expense on alcohol per person in San Diego at $1,112 per year.  That's an increase of 30.8% from 2016 to 2017 and it means San Diego's alcohol expense is the highest in the nation, followed by Seattle, WA in second place with $986 per year, and San Francisco, CA in third place with $875 per year.

The report was published by Delphi Behavioral Health Group who pulled data from a national Consumer Expenditure Survey conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics who analysed how families and individuals spend their income.

To be fair, the report's conclusion on spending don't necessarily prove that San Diegans drink more alcohol, just that they spend more on it. And considering San Diego also has some of the highest real estate prices in the country AND according to U.S. News & World Report, the highest gas prices, this report just adds to the growing list of things that make San Diego one of the most expensive places to live in the U.S.

Here are the top ten alcohol spending cities listed in the report:

1. San Diego, California at $1,112

2. Seattle, Washington at $986.

3. San Francisco, California at $875.

4. Boston, Massachusetts at $823.

5. Anchorage, Alaska at $788.

6. Denver, Colorado at $771.

7. Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota at $754.

8. Baltimore, Maryland at $724.

9. St. Louis, Missouri at $684.

10. Washington, D.C. at $662.
