At a board meeting last Monday, Sweetwater Union High School Board member, Paula Hall acknowledged the declining enrollment in the district, but then admitted that the numbers should start to increase now that President Biden is changing the way we handle illegal immigration.
The Sweetwater Union High School District is a school district headquartered in Chula Vista, near the San Diego/Tijuana border and has been negatively impacted financially due to declining enrollment. However, Board member Paula Hall is not only expecting the decline to stop, but she thinks the enrollment numbers should start to increase in the near future.
Her comments were caught on tape during the March 8th, Sweetwater Union High School Board meeting.
“I’m hoping it will change because we have a different atmosphere across our country right now with how we treat immigrants,” stated Hall
“The only reason why immigration and how you treat immigrants would have any bearing on a school district enrollment is through an open border,” Carl DeMaio stated. “Legal immigration did change under Donald Trump and it won’t change under President Biden. What will change is the amount of illegal immigrants that will come across our border,” DeMaio continued.
Immigration status is not reviewed when school funding formulas are created. Therefore, an influx of new students would mean much higher revenue for the Sweetwater Union High School District.
“This is confirmation that Democrats look at illegal immigrants as not just voters, but as a financial benefit,” said DeMaio.
