Del Cerro Brush Fire Blamed on Kids

San Diego fire investigators have determined that a brush fire in Del Cerro that prompted evacuations in an area near San Diego State University Sunday was set by kids.

On Sunday, just after 4 p.m., crews responded to a  fire that was burning near Adobe Falls Road and Del Cerro Boulevard in Del Cerro.T  he fire threatened several homes, prompting San Diego police to issue mandatory evacuations for at least 60 homes.  Several other nearby residents voluntarily evacuated.

As firefighters battled the fire, multiple Interstate 8 lanes were shut down and motorists were diverted. As of late Sunday night, the fire was nearly full contained.

According to fire officials said their investigators determined kids believed to be 12 years old were playing with a lighter and sparked the fire.It remains unclear if the kids will face charges.
