San Diego City Council Approves SDSU Stadium Lease

The San Diego City Council has approved a two year lease extension for San Diego State football to play at SDCCU Stadium through 2020.

The Aztecs will pay 1.1 million dollars a year, while the City will be able to keep some of the gameday revenue, and the University will reimburse San Diego for the costs of the games.

And SDSU says they will work with the City to schedule other events in Mission Valley.

The vote was 6-1, with Councilmember Scott Sherman voting no, saying the city will still have to pay 5.6 million dollars to keep the stadium open, even with the new deal for San Diego State.

The decision allows the stadium to stay open regardless of what happens in the November election.

San Diego State Athletic Director John David Wicker reacted to the decision on NewsRadio 600 KOGO.
