Seventeen years after he opened fire at Santana High School, the shooter is asking to be set free. Charles Andrew Williams went to prison in August 2002 after killing two classmates and injured 13 others back in 2001.
Williams is currently serving 25 years to life in prison. Now, he has petitioned Governor Jerry Brown to commute his sentence. It comes after Brown signed a bill earlier this year that prohibits prosecutors from trying defendants under 16-years-old as adults. Williams was 15 when he went on a shooting spree, killing two students, 14-year-old Brian Zuckor and 17-year-old Randy Gordon, and injuring 13 others.
The DA's Office said it is adamantly opposed to Williams’ petition.
