No matter who’s to blame for the partial federal government shutdown, it is affecting people in ways you may not realize.
For instance, who would have thought that if you’re thinking of heading to Mount Laguna or some surrounding areas in the local mountains, there’s something you need to know if you’re going.
Because of the government shutdown, the federal workers who maintain the public bathrooms in the Cleveland National Forest are not working so those bathrooms are not open.
And we’ve also reported on the closure of the famous and very popular federally run Cabrillo Monument at Point Loma, a place thousands of locals and tourists visit during the holidays.
And of course even more troublesome are the federal workers here and elsewhere who are not being paid or on furlough. Not a fun way to spend the holidays when you’re not getting a paycheck.
The federal government shutdown will be a week old tomorrow night with no signs of it ending anytime soon, with neither the White House nor the Congress appearing ready to compromise.
Some in Washington are saying don’t be surprised if it lasts into the new year.
Maybe we should have representatives of both sides come to the Cleveland National Forest to negotiate. Bet when they find out there’s not one public bathroom to use, they’d come to an agreement pretty quickly.
