A couple was killed Monday morning after a large tree fell on top of a house in the Point Loma Heights area. It happened around 6:15a.m. at the home on Santa Monica Avenue, where police say the couple was sleeping upstairs when the tree fell, killing them instantly. One person on the first floor of the home escaped without injury.
The house was a vacation rental property, and the three people were staying there while visiting San Diego.
Neighbors told KOGO News at the scene they had concerns about the tree, with one neighbor calling it an accident waiting to happen. The tree was estimated to be 75-100-feet tall.
