The report describes it as a “poppy nightmare.”
The San Diego Union Tribune says that as a result, officials in Lake Elsinore put out the word Sunday that the very popular poppy fields in Walker Canyon had become so popular with so many people that they were shutting down the popular poppy fields till further notice. No more visitors. No more shuttles will be allowed.A Facebook post by Lake Elsinore saying the situation had escalated beyond their resources.
Since the super blooms began here in Southern California after all the rain this winter, people from all over have been coming in droves to see, trample and pick some poppies for their own from the poppy fields.
What’s going on may remind you of that famous scene in the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy, her dog Toto, and the Cowardly Lion were lulled to sleep in a large field of poppies thanks to a spell by the Wicked Witch.
But while the Scarecrow and the Tin Man, not affected by the spell because they weren’t made out of flesh and blood, yelled for help, the Good Witch of the North made it snow and Dorothy and the rest of them were able to continue their trip to see the Wizard in Emerald City to seek their destiny.
With what’s happening in the poppy fields in Lake Elsinore, city officials there may be looking for a Good Witch themselves to help keep all the visitors under control.
