Wife of Rep. Duncan Hunter to Change Plea in Federal Campaign Spending Case

The wife of San Diego Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter is expected to change her plea of not guilty.

Margaret Hunter was indicted along with her husband last summer on charges of misusing at least 250-thousand dollars in campaign donations for personal expenses over several years. The Hunters' trial on the federal charges is scheduled for September. They both entered separate pleas of not guilty.

In a post on the San Diego U.S. District Court docket is a notice of a change of plea hearing for Margaret Hunter scheduled for Thursday (6/13) morning at 10.

Federal prosecutors say the Hunters spent campaign money on everything from video games, to their children's tuition and vacations. Congressman Hunter has denied all the charges and has said he is the victim of a Department of Justice “witch hunt.”
