Presidential Candidate's Offer of $12K Puts Spotlight on Stay-at-Home Moms

Democratic Presidential candidate Andrew Yang’s proposal to give every American $1,000 dollars a month to spend on whatever they want has led to talk about stay at home moms.

In an interview on The View, Yang said giving everyone $12,000 dollars a year would help to financially compensate them and would give more people an incentive to do the kind of work they want to do, including he says people like his wife who’s a stay at home mom with their two young boys.

That led to the folks at Salary.com to release a report about what a stay at home mom should be paid if she were to be paid for all the different jobs she does. And 12,000 dollars a year they say falls way short of that.

The Salary.com study saying that if stay at home moms were paid for all the different jobs they do, it would amount to $162,581 dollars a year.

Their list of jobs includes being, an academic adviser, an accountant, a coach, a teacher, a janitor, a judge, a market manager, a nurse, a plumber, a photographer and a psychologist. And the study says that’s only some of the jobs of a stay at home mom.

Presumably, the annual salary for a stay at home dad would be the same.

Andrew Yang’s proposal to give all Americans $12,000 bucks a year may not get very far, but it has raised awareness of what it takes to do one of the hardest and most important jobs there are.
