Most Popular Halloween Candy? The Surveys Say...

Halloween means costumes, trick and treating and candy. Lots of candy.

The National Retail Federation’s estimate of Americans spending $4.5 billion dollars on candy for Halloween is probably conservative.

And the candy is not just for the kids. Moms and dads get some too and in offices and workplaces all over the country today, there are bowls of it sitting on desks everywhere.

So what candies are the most popular?

There are lots of surveys out there. There's one survey about the most popular candies in every state.California’s is Skittles, so is Arizona’s. Oregon’s is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Nevada’s is Candy Corn.

There’s even an NFL-like candy draft at the SB Nation sports website that has at the top of their first round draft picks of candy, again the popular Reese’s peanut butter cups and Skittles, followed by Snickers, 100 Grand and Kit Kat bars. And they’re followed by the proverbial Candy Corn.

As for the least popular Halloween candies, one informal office survey found that after leaving a large bowl of various candies out for a few days, the last candy left in the bowl were…Dum Dum Lollipops.

But then maybe the people in that office just didn’t have enough “kid” in them. And when it comes to candy for Halloween, the trick or treaters are the ones who count!
