Victim of Church's Chicken Shooting in Otay Mesa Identified As Newlywed

The search continues for the man who shot and killed a female employee and wounded two other workers at the Church's Chicken restaurant in Otay Mesa Wednesday evening.

The woman who died was a newlywed, 28-year-old Maribel Ibanez. The two other employees were in stable condition. The shooting happened about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. Police say the man had tried to use a counterfeit 100-dollar bill and returned a short time later and opened fire on the employees. None of the customers were shot.

Family members told the San Diego Union Tribune maribel had just gotten married in March. According to her Facebook page, she was a team leader at Church’s Chicken.

A statement was released by Church's Chicken: "We are saddened and shocked by this violence against our employees and are committed to working with the authorities to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice. In the meantime, our sole focus is on supporting and comforting the victims, their families and our extended Church's family."

San Diego police continue their manhunt for Ibanez's killer. He was last seen driving away from the restaurant in a blue car. He's described as a thin, black man in his 30' and about 6 feet 1 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a blue Chargers beanie, basketball shorts and a light blue sweater.
