First Winter Storms Hit San Diego

Back to back winter storms expected to bring several inches of rain to the San Diego area.

The first wave hit hard Tuesday leading to flash flood watches and warnings and street flooding in the city. The National Weather Service has predicted from 1-2 inches of rain near the coast to 3-4 inches or possibly more in the mountain areas by the time the storms begin to dissipated early Thursday.

Some rainfall totals include Valley Center, which recorded 2.17 inches of precipitation through 6:30 p.m.Tuesday. Ramona received 1.60 inches while Big Black Mountain near Fallbrook got 1.53 inches and Escondido, Barona and Skyline reported just over one inch. Palomar Mountain got 1.23 inches and Rancho Bernardo recorded 0.88 inches.

An Urban Flooding Advisory was issued for Tuesday afternoon when rain was falling at a rate of 1/4 inch an hour..
