WATCH: The Sounds of Thanks During the Coronavirus Pandemic

It began in Italy and it now has spread to New York and all the way to San Diego.

It began as a way to say thank you to the doctors and nurses and other health care workers on the front lines of the battle against the COVID-19 virus.

And now people in cities in many cities around the world are coming out on their porches and balconies or from their windows, every evening, clapping and cheering for a few minutes in a way of letting those people who are treating patients and working on vaccines know that they are appreciated

One of the more organized ideas that someone came up with is called the two minute #ClapBecauseWeCare.

We saw similar kinds of things happen right after 9-11, when Americans wanted to say thank you to all the firefighters and other first responders who rushed into burning buildings to save lives even if it meant they lost theirs.

And now health care workers here and around the world are doing their jobs, dedicated to helping others at the risk of being infected with the coronavirus themselves.

These outdoor cheers and applause and even banging pots and pans at times also are ways to let neighbors and everyone with range of hearing the sounds know ….that they, are not alone. That indeed.. we all are in this together…even if we’re apart.
