Back months ago, on March 19th, when the governor became the first governor to announce a statewide stay at home order, few of us probably expected the coronavirus pandemic to affect our lives in the way it has for this long.
Few thought that by this time, so many businesses would still be closed or restricted in their operations and few expected so many thousands of jobs to be lost and few would have said that public health orders to wear face masks and physically distance at even outdoor gatherings would still be inforce.
And yet, as we near the half year mark of this pandemic, it is the way it is and there are no signs that it will end anytime soon.
With the San Diego Unified School District preparing for months, and not just weeks, of classrooms closed and distance learning only, it looks like the old normal is a ways off yet.
And that means having to deal with doing things differently is going to last a while. And still keeping hope it will end.
Mental health professionals say they see more anxiety, depression and general grumpiness.
So how do we cope? We’ve heard the words time and time again, that we’re all in this together. If we are, then maybe it’s time we really focus more on that and find ways to help each other more. With what we are going through, actions do speak louder than words.
