Is all the news we see every day about the coronavirus pandemic good for us? A new survey suggests it may not be.
The survey of 2,000 Americans found that the majority of Americans feel that when it comes to watching the news at night…no news is better than any news before bed. About 60 percent of those in this survey said the coronavirus news cycle negatively impacts their mental health.
The survey found that 57 percent no longer watch the nightly news because it stresses them out. Researchers say the all this stress is affecting people’s sleep habits, with more than half in the poll saying the pandemic-related stress is ruining their nightly sleep cycle.
A sleep science coach is quoted as saying, “Challenging as it may be, getting a good night’s sleep is important for the health of every member of your household.”
But there is some good news in this report about how watching the news is stressing us out. They say it has led to a lot of people doing things to improve their physical health. More than one third of those in the survey said they’ve changed their diets and are now eating a lot healthier.
Guess that’s what can happen when a pandemic like this slows life down and reduces the daily rush of doing all the things we used to do every day before we ever heard of the coronavirus.
There usually is something good that comes out of bad…even if it does stress us out a bit.
