COVID Cases Among SDSU Students Now More than 600

San Diego County health officials Sunday reported 265 new cases of the coronavirus in the county with 29 of those among students at San Diego State University.

The latest report included no new deaths but five new community outbreaks, three in restaurants, one in a restaurant with a bar and one at an unspecified business. The school last week extended the lockdown in student housing until Monday. The 621 total number of cases extends back to the first day of the Fall semester on August 24th.

Under the new state monitoring metrics, San Diego County is currently in Tier 2, also referred to as the Red Tier. San Diego’s state-calculated, unadjusted case rate is 6.9. The testing positivity percentage is 4.2%. The state will assess counties on a weekly basis, with the next report scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 15.
