It’s not over till it’s over. The famous words of a major league baseball legend decades ago have emerged as the theme on this morning after Election Day 2020.
We all knew the final result of the presidential election would not be known the morning after. In the history of our presidential elections, it often is not. But we all knew that where we are this morning is where we would be.
No matter what side you’re on, watching and waiting for hours last night as the returns came in and the electoral map started filling up, was stressful for many.
Someone on Twitter suggested that it was like watching your own surgery going on.
And now on this morning after, it looks like we will have to wait and watch a little longer for this presidential political surgery…as it goes into extra innings. And in fact it may be far from over.
With President Trump saying he’s ready to go into the operating room and end the surgery and Joe Biden saying it will go on until it is completely done, we may be days away, at least, of knowing the outcome of what has been, for many, an emotionally painful procedure.
When it is over, no matter how it turns out, the question will be how do we heal from it. How will we heal from the divisiveness of this presidential election year that is happening during a pandemic that also is not over yet?
Healing will not be easy, but we hope and pray that it will come.
