So a lot of Americans heard the news that Joe Biden has taken the lead over President Trump in two undecided states, Georgia and Pennsylvania.
But the counting of ballots continues and while headlines say the former vice president is on the verge of winning the election, it doesn’t mean we’re all on the verge of all of this being all over.
As anxious as most Americans have been and still are, no matter which side they’re on, and hoping their anxiety and stress will be over, it looks like we’re far from the calm they might want.
It’s clear the battle over the ballots and the counting is a battle that could last for a while with the lawsuits filed by the Trump campaign and the President having said what he said Thursday about a stealing of the election and suggesting a court fight all the way to the Supreme Court.
We all remember what happened in the election 20 years ago in the year 2000 when a battle over ballots in Florida did go all the way to the Supreme Court before George W. Bush was finally declared the winner over Al Gore. None of us probably want that long a battle again this time.
Whenever the battle does end, no matter how long it takes, it’s probably going to take a lot longer for the country to heal from what has been a divisive time. And you only have to look at the electoral map to see how divided we are.
It will take leadership from all political leaders from both sides to help lead us through it and beyond it.
