A Good Day and a Good Time to Give

In this year of the pandemic, when we all have things we worry about, Giving Tuesday couldn’t come at a better time.

With a new stay at home order looming that could limit even more what we can do during the holiday season, and the number of people who are getting the virus continuing to rise, a day like today can help.

That’s because Giving Tuesday is about others and taking the focus off our problems and instead on how to help others with their problems, is therapy we can always use, but especially now.

Giving Tuesday, which takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, started in 2012 in New York City and then spread across the world as a day organizers say is “a day that encourages people to do good.”

From donating to a charity or volunteering at an organization or church inyour community or helping your next door neighbor with a task or just offering some kind words to someone who can really use them.

Its creators say the idea behind Giving Tuesday is giving people the motivation on at least this one day, to spread joy and good in whatever way possible.

And it’s especially important to think about that now during a time when there are a lot of people in need, who are out or work or sick or having lost loved ones to the virus.

Getting through this pandemic together will be easier if we remember, especially today, that it can be better to give than to receive.
