As they probably said in Texas a few weeks back, they’re not used to weather like that in them there parts. And they certainly weren’t.
And here in San Diego, we’re not used to what we’re about to get in these here parts. A late and cold winter storm like the one that’s headed for us. And while it’s nowhere near the severity of what Texas experienced, the storm we’re going to get is a little unusual.
Sure, we get rain in the month of March sometimes, and even a little snow. But forecasters say this storm could bring a foot of snow on Mt Laguna and Palomar Mountain and some colder temperatures than we’re used to along with a thunderstorm or two, and even some graupel. Graupel?
According to the NWS, graupel is defined as “snow pellets or soft hail, particularly fragile and generally disintegrate when handled.” So now you know something you maybe didn’t know and something you might even be able to touch the next couple of days, at least for a moment or two before it melts.
This cold winter-like storm comes after this week’s report that said the month of February was the coldest it’s been in much of the U.S. in more than 30 years. And it arrives just about 10 days before the official start of Spring.
We can use the rain from this unusual winter storm and even more, because we’re behind our normal rainfall totals. But then over the last year. we’ve all gotten used to things that aren’t normal.
