Why the Urgent Push to Vaccinate the Unvaccinated

It was another weekend of warnings on TV’s Sunday talk shows, warnings about the growing number of new cases of the COVID-19 virus.

The U.S. Surgeon General warned that the Delta variant of the virus is the most contagious of them all and it is leading to a dramatic rise in cases among unvaccinated Americans.

The head of the Food and Drug Administration during the Trump administration warned that “For most people who get this Delta variant, it's going to be the most serious virus that they get in their lifetime in terms of the risk of putting them in the hospital."

With at least 48 of the 50 states now reporting a rise in cases, the director of the Centers for Disease Control warned that what is happening is a “pandemic among the unvaccinated” with almost all hospitalizations and deaths happening among only those who have not gotten the vaccine.

And a local public official, Springfield, Missouri, Mayor Ken McClure told "Face the Nation" he hopes community leaders will convince people to get vaccinated, saying, “It gets down to the community leaders, the community institutions that people trust saying you have to get the vaccination.”

The mayor urging Americans to use trusted sources and to "make sure people have good information."

And as the U.S. Surgeon General warned, misinformation "takes away our freedom” by making it harder to for people to make educated decisions about the health of themselves and their families.

And those are decisions that could determine how soon the pandemic becomes a thing of the past and not still part of the future.
