A lot of San Diego Padre fans have a smile on their face today.
And probably for the first time since things were going so well for the team through the first half of the season. But the second half of the season brought frowns and frustration to fans who had been led to expect that the Padres were headed to the World Series.
The Padres didn’t make it. Their manager didn’t survive and fans started reverting back to saying, “the same old Padres', the team that has played in the post season only six times in their 53-year long history.
But the news that Bob Melvin will be the team’s new manager, a guy who has led teams to the postseason multiple times and has won the Manager of the Year award three times, Padre fans all over social media today are happy with his selection.
Even those inside the sport are impressed with this former MLB catcher turned manager, with one source telling Kevin Acee at the San Diego Union Tribune that, “He’s going to be a voice of wisdom with our players.”
in any field of endeavor, from a baseball diamond to the fancy office of a CEO, experience can be a big help in being successful. Been there done that as they say.
And with the Padres having not been there much for more than a half a century and not having ever done it, as in winning a World Series championship for San Diego, the hopes of fans have been rekindled, enough to say that while there’s always next year, this next year could finally be THE year.
