Let’s face it. The headlines like the ones in the news are a little unsettling.
"War fears grow as Russian troops are ordered into Ukraine."
"Europe prepares for war."
"Russian president threatens the west".
News like this for many can make it feel as if we’ve gone back in time more than 80 years before World War II. And it also can make it feel as if it’s the Cold War of the 60s and 70s all over again. John Kennedy facing off against Nikita Khrushchev and Ronald Reagan confronting Mikhail Gorbachev.
And with today’s crisis following the last two years of not so good news about a virus that spread worldwide along with racial and political divides, all the news can wear us down. But how we react and what we do can help.
Having attended a birthday party for a 10-year-old this week with good friends and their family and actually inside a restaurant, it gets you thinking about how what’s happening in the news affects the kids growing up today. And a reminder that how we react as adults affects how kids react.
And that’s why time with family, with friends and with our faith may be more important than ever right now to help all of us, young and old, feel better about the times in which we live.
