Judge Blocks San Diego County Fair's Amusement Contract

SAN DIEGO - A judge says the San Diego County Fair's contract with an amusement company is rigged.

A San Diego Superior Court Judge blocked the 22nd district agricultural association's contract with Ray Cammack Shows (or RCS) to run the fair's midway or carnival rides. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the judge ruled the panel's contract review process intentionally favored RCS over competitor Talley Amusements and violates the state's public contracting laws, which are designed to encourage open and competitive bidding.

Talley Amusements, which was the ride operator for the county fair for 18 years, sued after the recent contract was awarded to RCS. The ruling comes about nine weeks before the fair is set to open and could affect what rides are featured at the annual event.
