The good man who is being called a hero when an evil man opened fire at a Taiwanese church gathering in Orange County was the right man at the right time.
Dr. John Cheng charged at the gunman, trying to disarm him. But the doctor was shot and died at the scene. But his actions allowed other parishioners to get him the ground and tie him up with extension cords. Dr. Cheng was 52 years old and is survived by a wife and two children.
He was a physician who took an oath to save lives and he saved lots of lives on Sunday. The sheriff says more people would have died had it not been for Dr. Cheng. Sheriff Barnes called Dr. Cheng’s act of heroism, “a meeting of good vs evil” that probably saved upwards of dozens of people.
We have all seen way too many cases of evil carried out by evil people. But we’ve also seen other Dr. Cheng’s when evil strikes
It’s been said that “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
But thankfully there are those like Dr. Cheng who decide to do something. And they remind us of one of the most popular Biblical passages; “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
