Largest Python EVER Captured in Florida

A team of biologists recently hauled in the heaviest Burmese python ever captured in Florida. The female python weighed 215-pounds, was nearly 18 feet long and had 122 developing eggs.

A team from the Conservancy of Southwest Florida says it used a tagged male, looking to mate, and tracked him for weeks. He finally led them, to her, and the 122 developing eggs inside her.

The conservancy has been following and capturing pythons for nearly 10 years in an effort to protect the native species that live in the Everglades. The pythons, originally from Southeast Asia, are considered a major threat.

The python's last meal was a fully-grown white-tailed deer, which is dwindling in the everglades. The Florida Panther is now endangered due to the reduction in the deer population.
