SAN DIEGO - The colors of the rainbow will light up a church in Bankers Hill.
St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral will host the seventh annual Light Up the Cathedral interfaith pride gathering Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The service will feature song and prayer as well as celebrating and honoring those who advocate for LGBTQ rights. The Very Reverend Penny Bridges, Senior Pastor of the Cathedral, says this year's Light of Pride award will be given to two groups who are on the front line of the immigration and refugee crisis.
"We are honoring those who take care of people at the border," said Rev. Bridges. "Refugees, asylum seekers, particularly those who are separated from their families and those who are LGBTQ."
One of the organizations being honored is El Faro, or The Border Church, which celebrates a bilingual, binational communion celebration at Friendship Park every Sunday afternoon. The other is Casa de Luz, a shelter for LGBTQ asylum seekers in Tijuana.
After the interfaith gathering, the cathedral campus will be lit up in rainbow colors for San Diego Pride Week.
