SAN DIEGO - A car dealership in Kearny Mesa has fired a number of employees after they went on strike.
Mercedes-Benz of San Diego fired 20 employees last Friday, accusing them of blocking other employees and customers from entering the dealership while they were picketing as a part of an ongoing labor dispute. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the dealership has also accused the union of blatant picket line misconduct and is filing a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board.
But a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1484 says the dealership is trying to intimidate the roughly 35 members, who have been on strike since June 17. The union plans to file its own complaint with the Labor Board over the terminations.
The union says the strike is not about wages but about what the union calls unfair rules which were recently put in place.
