San Diego Gets Major Influx of Cash from State

SAN DIEGO - The City of San Diego will receive some $68.5 Million from the state, earmarked for projects in all nine council districts.

Mayor Todd Gloria thanked state leaders for their efforts in securing the funding during a briefing Thursday.

"Thank you to the governor and the state legislature and their responsible fiscal leadership," said Mayor Gloria. "The state had the opportunity to invest in local communities up and down the coast of California."

The funding will go toward improving neighborhood parks and renovating historic buildings. But the biggest project will be the construction of a new library in the Oak Park community.

"This is what government is supposed to do: listen closely to the community, put their request to work and bring home the resources to get the job done," the Mayor said.

Overall, San Diego County is receiving nearly half a billion in funding from the state, the lion's share going to rail line improvements between San Diego and Los Angeles. City leaders hope the improvement projects will ultimately be for the betterment of San Diego communities and families.
