Imperial Beach Voters to decide Hotel Tax Increase

IMPERIAL BEACH - Voters in Imperial Beach will get to decide if the city's hotel tax will go up.

The Imperial Beach City Council voted to place a measure on the November ballot which would crease the Transient Occupancy Tax from ten percent to 14 percent, making it the highest in San Diego County. The tax would also apply to short-term vacation rentals. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports city leaders expect the increase to bring in another $400,000 in revenue each year, on top of the $1.3 Million it already receives.

Most residents and hotel operators support the move but some say they want those funds set aside to maintain the beach and other tourist areas.
