How Much National City's New Homeless Coordinator Position Pays

NATIONAL CITY - A South Bay city has created a new Homeless Coordinator position as it attempts to manage the ongoing homeless crisis.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the position was created by the National City Council earlier this month with a starting salary of $117,000 a year. The position was created with the help of $6 Million in federal stimulus funding. The Homeless Coordinator will work in National City's Community Development Department and will help support the homeless outreach program and work with various local government agencies and non-profits.

The San Diego Regional Task Force on Homelessness says National City has about 158 people living in the streets, a 26 percent increase from 2020. But the actual number of homeless people in the city could be much higher.
