What We Know About a Deadly Situation at the Border

TIJUANA - An investigation is underway after the driver of a pickup truck was shot to death at the border.

NBC 7 reports the shooting happened on the expressway near Tijuana General Hospital just before 6:00 a.m. Monday. The Baja California state attorneys office says the driver was in his early to mid 40s and sitting in a pickup truck with California plates in the "Ready Lane" waiting to cross into the U.S. when the shooting occurred.

Several nine millimeter caliber shell casings were found at the scene. Mexican authorities believe the shooter was on foot an not in another car.

It's unclear if the victim was a U.S. Citizen.
