News About COVID-19 and the Decision to Make by Winter

Just when we all thought all the news about COVID-19 was getting better, with cases down, and a date set for the end of California’s state of emergency.

But now comes word from the White House’s top medical advisor along with the White House COVID czar with new concerns.

Dr Anthony Fauci first sounded the alarm when he said two variants of the pesky virus are increasing at a troublesome rate. B.Q. 1 and B. Q 1.2 they’re called.

And then the head of the White House COVID task force advised that older Americans need to get the Omicron booster as soon as possible. Dr. Ashish Jha saying. “If you’re over 50 and certainly if you’re over 65, you’ve got to go get the vaccine because it actually, literally could save your life.”

But he says if seniors are up to date with their vaccines and get treated if they have a breakthrough infection, their risk of dying from COVID is now close to zero. He urges people to get their Omicron booster by Halloween, so they have protection by Thanksgiving when families and friends start to gather for the holidays.

And then there was the news this week from local health officials who urged everyone to get a flu shot, with flu cases dramatically on the rise, at least partially because the masks and social distancing requirements are gone.

So with those restrictions no more, it looks like it’s up to everyone to determine for themselves what to do about all this news as we head into the winter months.
