SDSU Calls for Vodka Billboard to be Removed

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State University is calling for the removal of a billboard that claims a certain brand is the official drink of the athletics department.

Hundreds of drivers have seen it on Mission Gorge Road, advertising Three Olives Vodka as the official Vodka of Aztecs Athletics.

"I would've imagined a different sponsor for the sports team that's something that's sports-related or helps with recovery or something like that," SDSU Maxwell Smith told reporting partner 10 News.

But the university is apparently not involved in the campaign.

Smith also said he finds it strange that the company would just go ahead and use the Aztecs logo without the university's permission. It's also bad timing, with the lawsuit against the university and three former football players accused of raping an underage girl at an off-campus house party.

Student Lindsey Belsky says she's glad the university has called for the billboard's removal.

"The fact that they're doing that shows a lot, that they do care and they are trying to make an effort, so I'm proud of SDSU for that."
