Residents were concerned about the high winds as the fire began to spread.

"It's definitely a cause for concern especially out here in the rural area of San Diego which is all wildland-urban interface area, where the homes are literally right next to the hillsides," resident Jeremy Adams told reporting partner 10 News.

Authorities says the fire broke out Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. near Willow Glen Drive and Steele Canyon Road.

NBC 7 reported the McGinty Mansion, which was once a military outpost later owned by the Martin Family but abandoned since 2007, was destroyed by the fire.

So far there's been no other reports of damages and no reports of injuries.
