San Diego Fire Chief Losing Confidence in City's Ambulance Provider

SAN DIEGO - San Diego's Fire Chief is losing confidence in the city's new ambulance service.

Falck has been on the job for over a year now as San Diego's emergency medical service provider. San Diego Fire-Rescue Chief Colin Stowell says he doesn't think the company will ever be able to staff the guaranteed services hours in the contract.

"Our patience has worn out now,” Chief Stowell told reporting partner 10 News. “We have given a lot of time for them to make the improvements.”

This comes as Falck is facing nearly nine-hundred-thousand dollars in fines from the city due to long response times and a lack of staff which the company blames on the pandemic and a nationwide EMT shortage, but Chief Stowell says he's growing tired of their excuses.

The city is looking into hiring a second ambulance company or having the fire department take over ambulance service.
