STUDY: What We Think of Snow

What is it about snow and the holidays?

There were a lot of people who live in San Diego have been driving up to the local mountains this week after Mt Laguna got eight inches and Julian got four inches, the first real measurable snow of the winter season.

Long lines of cars? No problem. Chains required? No problem. Freezing temperatures? Not a problem.

When it comes to snow, a lot of San Diegans are drawn to it like the proverbial bees to honey. And why not? We don’t get snow in the mountains all that much.

And we’re not the only ones who don’t see snow very often. In fact a new study says 54 percent of Americans have never seen or felt snow, up close and personal.

The study says one third of Americans have never built a snowman. And less than a third have been in a snowball fight.

Yet this poll says 72 percent of Americans hope to see snow during the holiday season.

Now if you grew up in a place that gets lots of snow that you had to shovel and where snow can close roads, maybe you’ve seen enough snow to last for a lifetime.

But if you loved playing in all that snow when you were a kid, and now live in San Diego, at least you can still get to it, and you don’t have to worry about it getting to you when you don’t want it
