LISTEN: San Diego State Upsets #1 Alabama

No. 5 seed San Diego State is advancing to the Elite Eight for the first time in school history after defeating No. 1 overall seed Alabama, 71-64, in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

The Aztecs' defense and depth proved to be the difference. Going into halftime, SDSU led 28-23, as they forced the Crimson Tide to shoot an abysmal 1-11 in three point shooting.

In the second half, Alabama jumped to a nine-point advantage but the Aztecs regained the lead with under 10 minutes left, capping off a 12-0 run.

Darrion Trammell led all scorers on the day with 21 points. SDSU held Brandon Miller, the projected No. 3 pick in the NBA Draft, to only nine points on 3-19 shooting

The first time the Aztecs have defeated a higher seeded or ranked team in the NCAA Tournament after failing in their previous nine attempts; the first time they had beaten a team ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press poll.

San Diego State becomes the first team in the Mountain West Conference to ever make it to the Elite Eight.
