Some News to Sneeze About

Just when we think the COVID problem is behind us comes word of another problem.

And it comes just when we have started to enjoy and appreciate the super bloom of colorful plants this spring from the coastal hillsides to the desert landscapes.

The news this week is big news if you are one who suffers from allergies. According to a report by Axios, allergy seasons are getting worse and getting longer.

And the report says the change can be partially blamed on climate change. In a study that studied the years from 1990 to 2018, pollen counts increased by 21-percent nationwide.

They say what’s happening is that warmer temperatures are leading to more intense pollen seasons with more time for plants to have a longer growing season and making the pollen season longer.

As an allergist with the Asthma and Allergy Foundation puts it, pollen counts are “really changing the landscape of allergies.”

So do you just heavy up on decongestants and Kleenex?   Do you just grin and bear it? Or do you just sneeze and bear it?

At least the warm and dry season of summer is coming after the spring allergy season and before the fall allergy season. But then of course summer means the start of the wildfire season. Can’t we get climate change to change a bit?
