Why the July 4th Weekend Brings a Warning

It happens every 4th of July but with this being an extra-long one, it could happen even more.

With July 4th on a Tuesday this year, it’s going to be a four-day holiday weekend for a lot of people.  And that means even more concern than usual among firefighters. You can probably understand their concerns.

While fireworks are illegal in California, some people still buy them in other states and illegally use them. We all see and hear them every 4th of July. And with it being a long weekend there could be more illegal fireworks being used than normal.

And then there’s the warmer and drier weather this coming week and weekend. Most of that once green vegetation from all the rain we had this past winter has dried out and turned brown and that means the fire risk will be higher.

So as we move closer to the long 4th of July weekend Cal Fire’s warnings about the use of fireworks should be taken seriously.

Independence Day means celebrating our country’s founding and it’s a time for us to be grateful for the government laws that are aimed at keeping us safe and all the firefighters who work to protect us. Especially here in California where we don’t need any more wildfires than we usually get every year.
