United Airlines CEO Blasts FAA as Skies Turn Unfriendly

The summer vacation season is well underway and the long 4th of July weekend is just a few days away.

And the friendly skies are anything but friendly for hundreds of thousands of travelers who are facing flight delays and cancellations already this week. It started this last weekend, with bad weather in the form of summer storms in the east and Midwest that have forced thousands of flights to be held up or scrubbed the last few days. That includes some flights at San Diego International airport.

And not only passengers are unhappy but airline executives, including the top executive at United Airlines who’s gone after the FAA.

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby blasting the government’s aviation agency's decision to cancel thousands of flights last weekend due to the weather and saying the “FAA failed us.”

In response, the FAA said they will always collaborate with anyone seriously willing to join us to solve a problem.

That problem, experts say, is not the weather, as much as it is staff shortages, at the FAA and at many of the airlines. As passengers wait in terminals for hours, their plane may be there but the crew is not. And things may get worse before they better if the bad weather continues as the 4th of July approaches.

So if you are flying this week and this coming weekend, be prepared to pack lots of patience in your luggage.
