There sure has been a lot of talk about the weather lately, especially the hot weather.
Last month, the talk was about the weeks long 100 plus degree temperatures in Texas and parts of the south and worries of energy shortages.
Last week, the talk was about the three days in a row on which records were set for the warmest global temperatures and new worries about climate change.
And now here in Southern California, the talk is all about the scorching heat coming this week as some of the TV weather folks are calling it….and along with it, the higher risk of wildfires with some even calling it “dire.” And there’s all the talk about staying hydrated and cutting back on outdoor exercise.
Not to poo-poo any of this, and not that people’s worries are not real, and not that advisories should not go out…but hot weather in the middle of summer in San Diego’s inland areas is not really all that unusual. Mid 90s in the foothills and mountains and 100-teens out in the deserts certainly are hot, but it’s not like we never see them during our summers.
That’s not to say that folks shouldn’t be talking about the weather, because everybody talks about the weather.
It’s just a matter of whether you’re going to worry a lot about the weather, or whether you’re going to abide by the old adage that there’s nothing you do can do about the weather.
