How to Make the Holiday Travel Season Happier

With the re-opening of the 10 freeway, you might expect if to be smooth sailing driving through Los Angeles.

Not quite. First, even before the fire erupted that disrupted the stretch of freeway through downtown L-A, traffic was bad. But then traffic is almost always bad driving through Los Angeles anyway.

And now of course with the Thanksgiving travel season already underway, traffic this week in L-A, Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties will be holiday heavy for most of this week.

A report from the AAA says this Thanksgiving travel season will be the busiest it’s been since 2020. That includes not only for driving but also for flying.

Seven-and-a-half million Californians — or nearly 20-percent of the state’s population — are expected to travel a distance of over 50 miles during the holiday week.

And while there still may be some lingering fears from the pandemic about getting on an airplane and catching a virus of any kind, the airlines say bookings are up and flights have been added.

The airlines do say they are better prepared with more staff and Southwest Airlines, in particular, saying the computer glitches are fixed that a year ago during the holidays caused an airline meltdown.

And remember, with Christmas coming, this post-pandemic holiday travel season probably will remain pretty busy right through the end of the year.  So stay safe, be patient and keep a holiday smile on your face.
