Why the Holiday Travel Season Should Be More Normal This Year

It may be the most wonderful time of the year, but it also can be the most weather time of the year.

As we head toward Christmas next week, there is a lot of winter weather spread out across the country, literally from San Diego to the state of Maine.

Forecasters say we can expect a couple of inches of rain from the storms this week near the coast to several inches in the mountains…along with possible thunderstorms at times and storm surf along the beaches.

Along the east coast of the U.S. heavy rain and strong winds this week already have led to hundreds of flight cancellations and lots more delays. And lots of flooding and hundreds of thousands of power outages. And there are plunging temperatures and some heavy snow expected in several states this week.

This is all happening as the holiday travel season is peaking later this week.

And with everyone still remembering what happened a year ago with the Southwest airlines meltdown and people and baggage strewn around the country, some travelers may already be a little nervous about how things will go this year. But the federal government’s $140 million dollar fine of Southwest Airlines will likely make things more normal this year.

Though when it comes to normal, the weather can’t always be counted on.

Happy travelling!
