Fire Crews battled a fire that broke out in an abandoned restaurant at the end of the Oceanside Pier on Thursday.
The Pier was evacuated and some nearby businesses closed up shop after the fire broke out sending a huge plume of smoke into the skies for hours. The structure at the end of the pier once house a Ruby's Diner that has been vacant for years.
Fire-fighting boats could be seen spraying water on the stubborn fire that broke out shortly after 3pm. Lifeguards spotted the fire just after 3 p.m. at the building that had once housed Ruby’s Diner. Images quickly shared on social media showed a large black plume of smoke rising above the end of the iconic pier.
Three hours later, Oceanside Fire Dept officials say they had stopped the forfward spread of the fire, but it was still burning, mostly underneath the pier.
No injuries have been reported and so far no word on a possible cause.
