A lot of San Diegans who are against it are probably happy to hear the news about the latest development regarding the plan to turn a favorite place for locals and visitors into a huge development.
The news about Seaport Village. It looks like the shopping village along the San Diego Bay that has been there since 1980 will be around for at least three more years and maybe longer.
The planned development called Seaport San Diego has been given another three years to get government approvals with the port commission extending the terms of its negotiating agreement with the developers through October of 2027 which means it will be after that before Seaport Village would begin to be turned into Seaport San Diego.
You see there are a lot of San Diegans who have written letters to the editor and made formal public comments about why they don’t want Seaport Village to turn into a very different and massive project with a hotel and a 500 foot observation tower. The project has been described in a San Diego Union Tribune report as one day being a world class destination site.
But those who love Seaport Village as it is are not crazy about the idea of such a big change.
The idea for changing Seaport Village was first talked about more than two decades ago and along the way, starts and stops dragged along as some shops there closed, and then reopened or new ones came as things first appeared to be happening, only to have things go nowhere.
While something will happen at Seaport Village at some point down the road, there still will be plenty of San Diegans who won’t be happy about it.
